YUKEN had its beginning in 1929 as an auto repair facility, started by Mr. Uichi Yuki. It grew into a machine tool builder in 1931. Hydraulic honing machines followed in 1940. The manufacturing of this equipment brought about the development of hydraulic vane pumps and control valves, which established a base for the manufacturing of hydraulic equipment
